Location: Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden ★★★★★
Exhibit: Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors
Located in the @smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden – Yayoi Kusama had one display her 6 infinity room experience. Yes, it was very much an experience. On Thursday, May 11th, I arrived in D.C and really didn’t have anything on my agenda. After some research, I came upon the @kusamayayoi exhibit and it happened to be the closing week!
Friday, May 12th, I get to the museum at around 8 a.m – it doesn’t actually open until 10 a.m but people were lining up as early as 4 a.m to score a free ticket. I, unfortunately, lucked out on the free ticket part but was able to pay $25 to get in right away and begin my adventure.
Consisting of 6 different rooms – you wait in lines to get your 30 seconds of bliss and transcendental release. Kusama lifts your soul into her LED experience consisting of: The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away, Love Transformed into Dots, Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity and finally The Obliteration Room (where you are colorfully obliterating a white room).
Room 6: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins (no pictures allowed – too many people went pumpkin squashing)
FINALLY – everyone’s favorite room aka because you are allowed to make it into your own artwork
